Tracking triple-digit heat indices and storms on Thursday

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with a spot storm possible north of I-70. Lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Partly sunny with highs in the mid-90s. Heat indices between 100-107. Storms return to the area by evening, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds.

EXTENDED: The line of showers and storms to our north could grow upscale and bring a few showers or storms tonight, but there is a "lid" on the atmosphere over our area, so it still looks tough to see much until tomorrow afternoon ahead of the cold front. We're in for one more day of intense heat as highs get into the mid-upper 90s and the heat index reaches around 105 degrees once again. Storms look to develop across far northern Missouri late Thursday afternoon and spread south into Mid-Missouri Thursday evening into Friday. Some of these could be on the stronger side given the amount of instability we'll have. The main concerns would be heavy rain and 50-60 mph winds. The front will be slow to settle to our south on Friday night, so we'll keep a chance for scattered showers and storms along and south of that boundary for much of Friday. We finally clear things out for the weekend and we're in for a treat with temperatures in the lower to mid-80s with much lower humidity. Next week is looking quiet to start with slightly below-average temperatures through about mid-week.
