Tracking storms and dangerous heat this afternoon

TUESDAY: Highs in the mid-90s today. Humidity is oppressive this afternoon and that will boost the heat index up to 104 degrees. This heat and moisture has made the atmosphere largely unstable and a line of storms is possible late today. Heavy rain moves through northwest Missouri around 4 pm and slides through this afternoon. Storms will become widespread and move through as a heavy line heading into the evening.

TONIGHT: Storms could be moving through southeast Missouri by sundown and rain clears out before midnight. Another warm night in Mid-MO with lows in the mid-70s.

EXTENDED: It’ll be another day to practice that heat safety Wednesday with highs once again in the middle 90’s. We’ll pick up an isolated storm chance by the afternoon as a front slowly moves closer to the area. Any storm that does get up and going will have to be monitored for severity but look less numerous than today. That chance of storms will stick with us into Thursday as a weak front pushes through. We’re on the front’s schedule, so if it doesn’t move through quick enough, it could allow highs to press into the 90’s again. The showers and storms will be with us Thursday night but should clear out by Friday. The humidity will start to clear out as well getting into the weekend. Highs will back off into the mid to upper 80’s all the way through Sunday.
