Tracking dangerous heat and storms today

TODAY: Some scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder are possible this morning as a storm system moves in from the west. Highs will still reach right around 90 degrees with a heat index in the upper 90s close to the triple digits. Isolated storms begin popping up across the area this afternoon as temperatures warm.

THIS EVENING: Scattered storms will begin converging into a line of heavy rain by dinnertime and this will push east overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has put much of Mid-MO under a slight severe risk as these storms could bring damaging winds and flooding tonight. Expect lingering showers by the morning commute on Monday.

EXTENDED: Behind this storm complex, winds will continue to funnel in from the south, keeping hot temperatures around for the workweek. Highs float in the mid-90s from Monday through Wednesday, with a heat index in the triple digits in the afternoon. A Weather Alert Day has been issued for this dangerous heat on Monday and Tuesday - you can find more info about this in our Stormtrack Weather Blog.
