Tracking dangerous heat and a chance for rain today

Today: A couple showers are possible this morning before 8 a.m. A Weather Alert Day is in effect with highs in the mid-90s again and heat indexes around 100 degrees this afternoon. Be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you're headed outdoors. A weak cold front will be slowly moving in from the north today and could bring isolated storms to counties south of I-70. These will stay sub-severe and taper off just before sundown.

Tomorrow: The cold front will slowly progress into southern Missouri by Monday afternoon, taking moisture and rain chances with it. Highs reach the low 90s with heat indexes in the mid-90s. Those who are still south of the front during the day can expect temperatures and heat indexes a few degrees higher.

Extended: The cold front exits by Monday evening as we begin drying out. Temperatures will slowly increase as we head towards the late week where we could see a return of dangerous temperatures with highs into the mid to upper 90s by Wednesday and Thursday. Mostly clear skies will be prevalent this week before a chance for rain next weekend.
