Tracking more rounds of showers and storms, flooding risk

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a few scattered showers and storms. Lows in the upper 60s to around 70.

TOMORROW: Scattered showers and storms likely, highs in the low to mid-80s. Heat index in the low to mid-90s.

EXTENDED: In the upper levels of the atmosphere, we are sandwiched between two high-pressure systems, meaning all of this moisture has nowhere to go with high pressure to our northwest funneling disturbances in our direction. At the surface, the front that has been responsible for rounds of storms since Thursday morning has barely moved, and is expected to remain stationary at least until Thursday, with low-level winds pushing in more moisture from the southwest each day. Severe weather isn't looking like an issue this week, but we could add to our flash flooding risk with another 2-3" of total rain expected by the end of the workweek. A Flash Flood Watch is still in effect until Tuesday night at 7 PM for much of our area. River levels are still at moderate along the Missouri River until Tuesday at the earliest. We start seeing impacts in and around Jefferson City at about 25 feet and we're currently at about 27 feet there. We won't get below action stage in Jefferson City until Thursday, or even a bit later if we continue to add to the rain total. Temperatures the next day remain in the low to mid-80s, with dew points approaching 70. That will yield a heat index in the low 90s through at least Wednesday in areas that don't see constant rain. The front finally pushes south on Friday, keeping temperatures in the low 80s with more sunshine heading into the weekend. Humidity will be a bit lower too, just in time for the holiday weekend. The Lake area and Jefferson City are looking great for July 4th celebrations!
