Tracking a warm and windy Wednesday

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with lows in the upper 50s to around 60.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny with low humidity. Highs in the upper 80s. Gusty south winds up to 25 mph.

EXTENDED: A complex of storms across parts of Iowa will try to dive south tomorrow night into Thursday morning, bringing a chance of rain to the northern tier of the state. Depending on how quickly that exits and/or decays, we could clear out enough to allow temperatures to rise into the low 90s. Heat indices Thursday and Friday rise into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees. The environment becomes more favorable for severe weather by late afternoon into Thursday night as instability grows and wind shear starts to increase. We could see another storm complex develop later on Thursday into Friday morning that could bring heavy rain and strong winds. As the cold front moves in Friday, it looks to stall across the state, bringing rounds of showers and storms through the first half of the weekend. A few strong storms will be possible on Friday, with lower chances on Saturday. The front will finally move south of us on Sunday, lowering rain chances by late Sunday afternoon or evening. Highs over the weekend will be cooler, in the lower 80s. Rain amounts are starting to become more of a concern, with 2-4" possible along and north of the Missouri River...where we have seen the most rain since this weekend. This rain will be needed for folks who have remained dry south of I-70 over the past few days, but outside of the threat for strong winds Thursday and Friday we'll have to keep an eye on the flash flooding potential. River levels shouldn't see a huge jump, especially in areas that have been in a deficit this month. Next week starts off cooler than average with highs in the lower 80s.
