Tracking record-level heat and weekend storms

Today: Clear skies and low humidity makes for a pleasant day today. The high for today will be topping out near 91 degrees with winds out of the south at 5-10 mph.

Tomorrow: The ABC17 Storm track weather team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Thursday and Friday. High temperatures on Thursday will top out at 97 with the heat index reaching just at or over 100. There is a slight chance for scattered showers before 7 am.

Extended: Friday's high temperature will top out just below 100 degrees at 99. the heat index will top out in the mid-100's. Friday afternoons heat will lead to dangerous conditions. Make sure to not be outside for extended periods of time and to stay well hydrated. We will be just under the 1953 record high of 100 by 5 pm. Late Friday evening into the morning, a cold front will make its way from Iowa towards Central Missouri. this will lead to overnight scattered storms Friday night. The biggest threat will be lightning and brief downpours. These storms/ showers will stick with us until the early afternoon. From Sunday through Monday we will continue to see scattered storm chances increase with a cool down coming at the start of next week.
