Tracking dangerous levels of cold air this weekend

FRIDAY: The cold has stuck around this morning. Winds out of the north are going to lead to wind chills on the wrong side of zero all day long. Bundle up and cover all of the exposed skin that you can to prevent frostbite if you need to be outdoors for lengthy periods of time. Highs will top out in the middle teens.

TONIGHT: The cold is here to stay overnight. Lows will fall near zero, with wind chills in the -20 vicinity. Some light snow also makes a return overnight. Our best chance at seeing some snowflakes will be along and north of I-70 after midnight.

EXTENDED: That light snow will be possible through about midday Saturday. We’ll see a break in the activity, but highs will top out near 10. Wind chills Saturday night will fall into the -15 to -20 range again. We’ll be stuck in the single digits Sunday afternoon, with wind chills staying below zero. It will be another dangerous night with wind chills around -20 Sunday night and again Monday night. Our next system start to inch closer later in the day Sunday, bringing the return of snow chances. These will last through the day on Monday and could spill over into Tuesday. We’re expecting some decent accumulations, with the higher amounts south of I-70. We’ll be tracking this system closely all weekend, so check back in as the details start to emerge. We’ll have another disturbance to track towards Wednesday, but the rest of the week will be a slow climb back to the freezing mark.
