Weather Alert Day: Freezing wind chills this morning, slick roads possible

The ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team has issued a Weather Alert Day through midday Sunday for bitterly cold wind chills throughout Sunday morning.

Synopsis:

The system that brought snow to the area on Saturday has exited to the east and shifted winds to the northwest. These breezes will continue to push frigid air into the area and bring some of the coldest temperatures we've seen this season.

Temperatures will be in the single digits for most of the morning, with wind chills as low as -10 degrees.

Timing:

Cold air has moved in overnight and kept temperatures in the single digits since before midnight. Expect single digits until this afternoon, where highs top out in the upper teens.

Impacts:

Wet roads from Saturday's snow could allow ice patches to form as road temperatures have fallen well below freezing. Expect slick spots out on the road for most of the morning.

Single-digit temperatures could cause frostbite in just over 30 minutes. If you have to be outdoors for longer than a few minutes, make sure to cover up with a hat, gloves, and sturdy shoes to avoid exposure to the frigid air for too long.
