Mild and breezy this afternoon, arctic air looms

winter

MONDAY: Plenty of sunshine is in the cards today! After mild start, temperatures won’t have much trouble reaching the middle 50’s later today. A system moving to our northeast will ramp up the winds, however. Gusts will reach 30-35 mph as it passes through the Great Lakes region.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear skies stick around overnight, with lows falling back to about the freezing mark.

EXTENDED: A slightly cooler start won’t matter much by Tuesday afternoon, with highs again in the middle 50’s. Winds will be somewhat of a theme for a good chunk of the week. Our next storm system enters the picture Wednesday, keeping the breezy conditions around. What will be more impactful will be the return of rain chances throughout the day. Our best opportunity for rain will be during the day. If we can hold on to moisture long enough overnight, we might be able to see some snowflakes. Even if we do, they aren’t expected to add up. The brutal cold will be the biggest impact from this system. Lows Wednesday night into Thursday will dip into the low 20’s, feeling like the single digits Thursday morning. Highs don’t improve much at all for Christmas Eve with that relentless northwest wind. A little better on Christmas, with a chance to get back to freezing. We’re back in the 40’s by next weekend.
