Stormtrack Insider: Orionids visible as clouds are expected to clear overnight

The peak of this meteor shower actually occurred early this morning, but clouds and rainfall kept mid-Missouri from view. Tonight, with clouds expected to lift to the north, we should clear out enough to see this celestial phenomenon.

The Orionids get their name due to their proximity to the Orion constellation. Up to 10 meteors will be visible per hour between 1-5am late tonight into the morning hours Thursday-- you'll want to look to the southeast sky.

Unfortunately clouds may hamper the view along and north of HWY 24. Visibility of these meteors will be better near along and south of I-70.

As with all space-watching, you'll want to avoid nearby light pollution.
