HOT WEATHER: Why summer-like heat is on the way next week

⬆️HIGH PRESSURE EXPLAINED⬆️

Summer takes over next week!

A strong ridge of high pressure is expected to develop across the central United States by the middle of next week. We're expecting our first round of extended summer-like heat to push into mid-Missouri.

The week will start out in the upper 70s and low 80s and jump into the low 90s by Wednesday.

The Climate Prediction Center's temperatures outlook for the start of June shows a massive bullseye for above average temperatures. Most of mid-Missouri is in the 80-90% range for chance to see above average temperatures.

This typically highlights temperatures that will be between 10-20 degrees above normal... putting us between 87-97º for that time frame.

With all the bells and whistles...

We'll see lots of sunshine next week too... something that's been hard to come by so far in the month of May. A very slow weather pattern in the upper levels of the atmosphere has been responsible.

We're expecting things to start moving a little faster by next week-- and this heat will be accompanied by our ever favorite humidity too. Dew points are expected to be in the low to mid 70s.

If temperatures manage to get into the low 90s along side that, heat index values near 100 could be possible!
