Policy: Jay Ashcroft enjoys plenty of name recognition thanks to his father -- a former Missouri politician who rose to become U.S. attorney general under then-President George W. Bush. But friends and foes alike say Ashcroft has created his own record since being elected in 2016.

As secretary of state, Ashcroft put into place a rule about library materials and children that was widely criticized as censorship but that supporters say protects children from indecent material. His campaign largely focuses on conservative policy staples such as support for law enforcement, low taxes and strident opposition to abortion.
