Tracking clouds and warm temperatures for holiday travel

THIS AFTERNOON: Partly to mostly cloudy, but still warm, with highs in the mid-50s. Winds from the south will be steady at 5 to 10 mph, with some gusts up to 20 mph.

TONIGHT: Clouds will clear out overnight, and temperatures will stay mild in the mid-40s. Patchy fog is expected in low-lying areas by sunrise.

EXTENDED: A foggy start to Tuesday could keep areas north of I-70 in the upper 50s by the afternoon, while areas south of the highway might reach the low 60s. Clouds will stick around into Christmas Eve due to a stalled boundary overhead, but it will remain dry for holiday travel. Temperatures are expected to approach record highs on Wednesday, reaching the upper 60s to low 70s. There's an even better chance of breaking records on Christmas Day, thanks to more sunshine, with a forecast high of 73 on Thursday. The record high on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is 74 degrees, set in 2021 and 1889, respectively. After Christmas, temperatures will begin to drop, and a strong cold front this weekend could bring us back down to reality and back to average by early next week.
