Tracking scattered showers and storms and a weekend cooldown

TODAY: Scattered showers and storms are possible in the morning hours before a brief lull in activity. A line of storms will form along and south of I-44 between 12-2 pm, with coverage expanding northward by 3-6 pm. The strongest storms will develop in the I-44 corridor and quickly move south, resulting in a very narrow window to experience severe storms in the area. Most will notice heavy rainfall and lightning as temperatures warm into the mid-70s by the afternoon.

TOMORROW: Rain and clouds will clear out before sunrise on Sunday, leaving behind much cooler conditions. Temperatures will start in the mid-40s in the morning and only warm to the mid-60s in the afternoon.

EXTENDED: Weekend rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 2 inches south of I-70, decreasing to a few tenths of an inch to the north. Monday will be milder, with temperatures in the 70s, ahead of a dry cold front that will bring cooler weather for the rest of the week. Highs will stay in the 60s throughout the week, with chilly overnight lows in the 40s.
