Tracking a warm end to the workweek, storms tonight

THIS MORNING: Early morning temperatures in the 60s, warming quickly to the upper 70s by noon.

TODAY: Partly cloudy with highs in the mid-80s. Gusty south winds up to 20-25 mph.

EXTENDED: A slow-moving cold front approaches from the west, but storms hold off until late, keeping high school football and other sports activities dry. Showers and storms ramp up overnight as low level winds and moisture increase. Clouds and morning rain look to limit the severe risk locally, especially with the front parked along our eastern tier of counties by late afternoon. Storms could develop along this boundary by late Saturday afternoon, which will more than likely set up along and/or south of I-44. We could see a few lingering spot showers as winds wrap around low pressure in the evening, bringing cooler air in for Sunday. Rain amounts will reach around 1" or so, with slightly higher totals across eastern and southeast Missouri. Morning lows on Sunday drop to the upper 40s with highs in the mid-60s. Next week starts off mild with highs in the mid-70s, and another cold front plows through between Monday night and Tuesday, bringing a quick hit of rain and cooler air by mid-week with highs back into the 60s by Wednesday.
