Tracking excessive heat and humidity this weekend

TODAY: Mostly sunny with a heat index near or above 105 degrees in the afternoon. Spotty pop-up storms are possible during the heat of the day, with activity dying down after sunset.

TOMORROW: Sunny and very hot and humid, with a heat index again above 105 degrees. Afternoon pop-ups are possible, mainly in eastern MO.

EXTENDED: Saturday and Sunday are ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days for a heat index above 105 degrees each day. Monday also looks very hot, with a heat index above 100 degrees and a chance of afternoon storms. Heat persists into early Tuesday as we wait for a cold front in the evening, bringing much more widespread rain through Tuesday night and early Wednesday. A pleasant cooldown is expected from Wednesday onward, with highs dropping to the lower 80s.
