Tracking triple-digit heat and scattered storms this weekend

TODAY: Partly cloudy and hot, with the heat index between 100 and 105 degrees. Southwest winds will be gusty, reaching up to 25 mph at times. Chances of storms increase by dinnertime, with scattered showers and storms continuing throughout the night.

TOMORROW: Scattered to widespread showers and storms are expected on Sunday morning, lingering into the afternoon in southern Missouri. Conditions remain hot and humid, with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 80s and a heat index in the 90s.

EXTENDED: Showers and storms this weekend could contribute to localized flooding with 2 to 4 inches of rain possible in parts of northern Missouri. Storms may also be strong at times, and could produce isolated damaging winds Saturday night and Sunday. Daily rain chances continue early next week as a front stalls near the area, and heat holds on with highs in the 80s and the heat index in the 90s in areas that stay drier. The front finally exits around Wednesday or Thursday, but more intense heat will follow with high temperatures creeping back into the 90s late next week.
