Tracking a dangerous heat wave early this week

TODAY: Isolated storms are possible, but coverage and relief will be very limited. Much of the area will be dangerously hot, with a heat index up to 105 degrees.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and extremely hot, with high temperatures in the mid-90s and a heat index of 105 degrees or higher.

EXTENDED: Sunday through Tuesday are ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days due to a dangerous heat index reaching up to 105 degrees each afternoon. A heat dome will sit over the area through the first half of the week, squashing rain chances and contributing to hazardous heat and humidity. However, this heat wave won't last long, as a cold front will arrive on Wednesday to break the heat. Southern Missouri will still be hot on Wednesday as the front moves in from the north, but widespread relief is expected by Thursday onward, with highs dropping to the low 80s and upper 70s late week, about ten degrees below average. Daily storm chances are possible late in the week as the front lingers in the region.
