Tracking scattered rain chances and lingering heat and humidity

TODAY: Partly sunny with isolated showers and storms developing in the afternoon. Highs climb to the upper 80s if not 90s, with the heat index rising a few degrees further.

TOMORROW: More scattered to widespread storms are possible early Sunday, and rain may linger into the afternoon for some. Highs remain in the upper 80s with a heat index in the low 90s.

EXTENDED: A complex of storms may move in from the northwest after midnight early Monday, potentially bringing strong winds if it remains intact. Rain diminishes throughout Monday as a cold front tracks through the area, bringing relief from the heat and heavy humidity. Highs drop to the lower 80s from Tuesday through Thursday with much lower humidity; however, signs point to warmer temperatures and increased moisture returning by next weekend.
