Tracking a winter storm late today

TODAY: Saturday starts cloudy and cold as temperatures remain below freezing all day. Precipitation begins tonight with snow and wintry mix increasing in coverage from west to east by 9 p.m. Heavy precipitation continues areawide overnight.

TOMORROW: Sunday will be the worst day as heavy snow falls primarily along and north of I-70 while ice is expected to the south. Precip fully switches to snow across the area as the system exits into the overnight.

EXTENDED: Snow totals along and north of I-70 may exceed a foot, mixing with sleet just south of the interstate. Ice accumulation will be highest near the Lake area over to I-44 and the Ozarks with a quarter to half inch of ice likely. This will bring a threat of power outages from icy power lines and nearly impossible travel for some. Extreme cold follows this system early next week with overnight lows possibly dipping below zero.
