Tracking a clear day to prepare for a strong winter storm this weekend

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly sunny with highs near or below freezing. A steady northerly breeze will keep wind chills in the 20s.

Early Saturday will be the time to get where you need to be this weekend as precipitation begins by early evening. A wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain is expected for much of southern Mid-MO, switching to snow in central and northern Missouri. Precipitation will fall throughout all of Sunday with a final push of snow areawide into early Monday. Moderate to major travel impacts and power outages are expected with extreme cold following this system next week.
