Tracking light precipitation today, winter storm this weekend

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly cloudy with highs in the 40s. Light rain is possible by late afternoon, with a few flurries possible in far northern Missouri. Very light precipitation is expected overall.

TONIGHT: Some clouds linger overnight, with lows falling back to the 20s.

EXTENDED: Friday will be sunnier but colder as highs only reach the mid-30s. Temperatures continue falling below freezing this weekend, and a strong winter system is expected to bring widespread wintry precipitation late Saturday through Sunday. Many details remain uncertain, but an ice/snow mix is looking more likely for our area, causing travel impacts on Sunday and Monday. Dangerous cold will follow this system next week with overnight lows dropping to single digits and highs in the teens.
