Tracking a blustery New Year’s Day
THIS MORNING: Mostly cloudy and cold with early morning lows near freezing. A steady breeze will add on more chill.
TODAY: Partly sunny with highs in the upper 30s. Winds will be gusting in the teens, keeping the wind chill near or below freezing all day.
EXTENDED: The new year brings more cold and possible wintry precipitation with a few systems to watch this week. Tomorrow, a clipper will bring a chance for cold rain and light snow flurries on Thursday afternoon. Accumulations will be negligible, with northern Missouri struggling to reach an inch. A stronger system this weekend will be much more notable and travel impacts are possible late Sunday through Monday. All cards are still on the table with rain, ice, and snow all possible. Even colder air is expected to follow this system as we track the Polar Vortex into mid-January.
