Insider Blog: Good drought improvement in new update

The newest drought monitor is out with the most up-to-date outlook, and our recent dreary days had a silver lining! This above-average rainfall in the past weeks has been whittling away at our local drought, though we certainly aren't out of the woods.

Compared to the week prior, the new drought monitor shows a 25% drop in drought coverage statewide. We officially cleared away severe drought for the first time since March of 2023. Though half the state remains in drier or moderately drier than average conditions.

The outlook for late winter into spring keeps the drought lingering around, but some positive signs are creeping in. Improvement is expected just south of Mid-MO and hopefully, we can see a wetter spring for local relief as well.
