Tracking light wintry precip this weekend

TODAY: Dry air keeps precip at bay until late this afternoon, with light rain and snow possible overnight. Lighter amounts of precip will amounts to no impacts into the weekend. Temperatures remain chilly in the 30s with clouds for Friday.

TOMORROW: Saturday is a near-repeat of the day before, starting dry and cloudy before seeing another chance of light precip. A wintry mix Saturday night will carry the same negligible impacts due to dry air.

EXTENDED: We are still tracking a much stronger system moving across the Midwest early next week, which could bring significant impacts with strong winds and accumulating snowfall. The main questions will be the storm track and how much cold air will push in to keep snow piling up into Tuesday. There is a good chance of exceeding 3" of snowfall in Missouri, but exactly where the most widespread high totals will be is still to be determined as the storm gets closer. Right now the timeline ranges from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest impacts occurring on Monday night into Tuesday morning. Winds could reach 30-40 mph, but I'm not as​ concerned about blowing snow because it will be wet. A rough estimate for our area is an 8:1 snow-to-liquid ratio for the event, meaning this will be tough to shovel and get slushy on the roads once it starts to accumulate. We likely see some rain at least for the beginning part of the event on Monday if precipitation starts in the afternoon when temperatures are still around 40. Total liquid equivalent looks to be around an inch, but not all of that will be snow.  We'll be dry and seasonably chilly Wednesday with a front bringing a chance of a few rain or snow showers on Thursday.
