Tracking summer-like heat to kick off October

TODAY: Above-average heat lasts through Sunday with highs nearing 90. Winds from the east will work to keep temperatures slightly lower than in recent days, but sunshine and dryness win out for a summer-like start to the new month.

TOMORROW: More sun and heat is set through Monday with highs again up to 90. Still, expect a few more degrees shaved off relative to the day before.

EXTENDED: Highs remain in the mid to upper 80s through midweek as high pressure slowly heads east. A cold front brings rain on Wednesday and Thursday with better totals in recent forecasts; rainfall could amount to around an inch for most of Mid-MO. This still isn't a washout, and the greater impact we'll track with this system is the sharp return to fall conditions. High temperatures are now trending to the 60s by next weekend.
