Tracking one more hot day followed by storms and widespread rain

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and warm with lows in the upper 70s.

TOMORROW: Increasing clouds and hot with highs in the lower 90s. Showers and storms move in from the north by late afternoon into the evening.

EXTENDED: We'll finally see a change in the hot weather pattern as a cold front moves in from the north tomorrow with showers and storms across northern Missouri early in the day. We'll manage to make the low 90s by late afternoon, and if any storms can break through an atmospheric cap ahead of the front, they'll have the chance to become marginally severe with small hail and gusty winds. The majority of rain and storms will hold off until the front arrives, with widespread rain overnight Wednesday through early Thursday. The best chance of lingering rain on Thursday will be across areas along and south of I-70, with rain and storms exiting by late Thursday. We'll be cooler in the wake of this front in the low 80s on Thursday and mid-80s on Friday with sunshine to close out the week. The weekend weather pattern could be active as the jet stream flattens out, allowing multiple disturbances to traverse the region. We'll have chances for showers and storms between Saturday and Sunday as a front stalls across the region, with dry time in between. 7-day rain totals will be around 3-3.5", with most of that falling between Wednesday night and Thursday, and Saturday night into Sunday.
