Tracking storm chances Saturday and prolonged dangerous heat next week

TODAY: Fog is ongoing early Saturday morning, and may persist through mid-morning in the north. Rain chances are increasing for Saturday, with isolated to scattered thunderstorms through the day. Scattered rain and mostly cloudy skies will keep highs in the mid-80s. Dry time will be had, but in between storm chances.

TONIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms may linger into the overnight, with a warm front slow to lift north.

EXTENDED: While some morning showers appear possible, near sunrise, the forecast is generally dry on Sunday. Dry skies and warm air move in behind the warm front. We expect mostly sunny skies and highs near 90. Humidity will make it feel like temperatures are in the high 90s and low triple digits. This forecast applies to Monday as well, but by Tuesday, heat may build highs a few degrees warmer. We'll need to watch for an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day where heat indexes are likely to reach 105 degrees or higher. Right now, it's uncertain whether that will happen, but prolonged heat indexes in the 100+ degree territory have prompted Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Watches across the region. Sunshine and heat will be the biggest impact, alongside little relief with lows in the mid-70s each night through Friday.
