Tracking daily rain chances, but also dry time, through the weekend

TODAY: Friday is a better chance for rain across mid-Missouri. Light showers this morning are spreading north slowly. These will likely make it into our northeastern communities, but as they do they will become increasingly weak and sparse, meaning more dry time to the north today, while steady light rain makes for a wetter day in the south. By the afternoon, there may be more dry time for folks in the south, as we transition from widespread light rain to locally moderate rain with a better chance for lightning and thunder. Most of Friday's rain will fall along and south of a line from Marshall to Hermann, with notably drier conditions to the north and east of this line.

TONIGHT: Some shower chances will linger into the overnight hours, but many will start to dry up. We'll be watching for shower chances after midnight into Saturday morning.

EXTENDED: Many will start the day dry, but we'll be watching a cluster of showers and weak thunderstorms across Kansas Friday night that may bring morning showers to us on Saturday. If that doesn't materialize, we'll have a chance for a few isolated showers or storms in the afternoon and a mostly dry day. Saturday night may bring another chance for scattered showers as another upper-level trough to our west drives renewed scattered rain chances. This comes with a slight breakdown in our upper-level ridge over the weekend, which may promote more chances for rain Sunday night and again on Monday. This may also help us overcome surface high pressure and dry air that persitently keeps our forecast a bit drier in the north and east. Overall, we expect highs near 80 with plenty of dry time each day. If you have outdoor plans, you should keep them, but keep an eye on rain chances as they linger each day through the weekend.
