Tracking more storms ahead of a quiet weekend

TODAY: Thursday is a warmer day, after morning showers. With some clearing and more south wind, temperatures are expected in the 70s. You'll likely want the umbrella out the door this morning, but it's unlikely you'll need it after 11 a.m. Isolated storms will be possible along and ahead of a cold front this afternoon, but many will stay dry. These storms will strengthen with time as they push east. Any severe threat is highly conditional upon how much instability, shear, and lift these storms have available to them. Right now, these factors still seem somewhat out of sync locally, so we expect the severe risk to be very low in mid-Missouri before these storms have better support to our northeast.

TONIGHT: We finally appear much drier overnight, with only a few chances for rain in the south. Skies even look mostly clear. Temperatures will then likely fall to near 60, even into the 50s for some.

EXTENDED: Cooler air is ahead, but after one more big warm-up on Friday. The next approaching system is larger, stronger, and more capable of pushing highs into the 80s. This will also fuel a chance for severe storms on Friday night. Friday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. For the latest details, read our blog. Drier and cooler weather is expected Saturday afternoon and Sunday, when highs are capped in the 50s. 60s and 70s return next week.
