Tracking a pleasant start to a weekend that ends with thunderstorms and snow

TODAY: Friday is bright and mild, despite a cold front working through overnight. Temperatures starting in the 50s this morning will give us a warm starting point, so despite weakening northwest winds, we can expect another day in the upper 50s under mostly sunny skies.

TONIGHT: High pressure slides through tonight, on the other side of which we'll regain south winds. Temperatures get chilly tonight, falling back into the mid-30s.

EXTENDED: A warm front lifting in on Saturday should push highs well into the 60s, if not low 70s. With a front nearby, there will likely be a notable difference from north to south. 50s are possible near Macon, with 70s a realistic number near the Lake of the Ozarks. Sunday will be a dynamic day with a thunderstorm chance in the late morning to evening ahead of snow returning by late evening. Accumulating snow is looking more likely this morning, with 50-60% chances of up to 2 inches in some spots. Accumulations may be limited by warm ground temperatures, but at least snowfall has looked more impressive in recent data. Also, winds will be a factor, with potential for 20+ mph sustained winds and gusts of 40-45 mph. Cooler air arrives Sunday night, dropping lows into the teens Monday morning, and highs into the 20s. Dry but cold conditions last into Tuesday.
