Tracking a cold that lingers despite more sunshine
TODAY: Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, starting with dangerously cold wind chills as low as -20° to -25°. Winds are relaxing through the morning as they shift to the west from the north. A transition to southerly wind happens this afternoon and windspeeds increase to 10-15 mph, warming temperatures.
TONIGHT: Wind chills are still very cold tonight, but an improvement from Monday morning. Lows near 10 degrees amid a calming wind into the early morning should yield wind chill values in the low single digits to near zero.
EXTENDED: Mornings continue to start cold each day, with single-digit lows every day this week. Similarly, high temperatures climb into the 20s each day through Thursday. A shot of colder air returns Thursday night, leaving highs in the teens Friday, and lows possibly subzero again by Saturday morning, yielding a similar feel to this morning. The weekend looks cold, but there's hope for warmth with a moderating trend into next week. We could be back above freezing for the first time by Sunday afternoon.
