Tracking a weekend winter storm expected to bring dangerous cold and impactful snow
TODAY: Snow has begun in the 3 o'clock hour here in Columbia. Snow will continue on and off through the day and into Sunday. Temperatures will hover in the single digits all day, with wind chills sub-zero all day. Snow will be light Saturday, but we're cold enough that everything will stick. Snow may let up in a lull late this afternoon into the evening hours.
TONIGHT: Temperatures don't budge overnight, keeping us in the single digits, and wind chills subzero through Sunday morning. Overnight, we'll see the second round move into the region. This round will bring the heaviest snow.
EXTENDED: There is some uncertainty about the coverage of the second round. All may see more snow Sunday AM, but there is a chance some in the northwest may not. The bulk of forecasted snow is expected from this round, so this will have a big impact on totals. For all the details, read our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Bitter cold lingers Monday, with subzero lows and windchills even colder. Monday's highs are expected in the teens. The arctic high shifts away Tuesday, allowing highs to return to the 20s, but it will be another cold day, with a start possibly again in the single digits. Highs remain in the 20s through Friday of next week, despite the return of sunshine.
