Weather Alert Day: Dangerous cold expected Sunday morning as wind chills drop below zero

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerously cold temperatures on Sunday morning as wind chills are expected to drop below zero.

Our first push of colder air has already arrived in the wake of a cold front that moved south on Tuesday night. Temperatures are expected to start out below average on Thursday.

A series of fronts will move through the region between Thursday and Sunday, with the coldest air set to arrive for the weekend.

An upper level system will set up over the Great Lakes, bringing show showers to our east and northeast, and allowing strong northwest winds to drop temperatures into the low teens Saturday morning and upper single digits on Sunday.

Winds out of the northwest will hang around 10-15 mph, allowing wind chills to drop to around -5 by Sunday morning, and even as winds shift southwest during the day, the strong breeze will keep wind chills in the teens.

Try to limit your and your pet's time outdoors, especially on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We'll warm a bit, back into the 30s to start next week as the upper pattern begins to flatten a bit with winds from the west.
