Weather Alert Day: Below-zero wind chills expected on Sunday and Monday morning
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerous cold on Sunday morning as wind chills are expected to fall below 0°. A Weather Alert Day has also been issued for Monday morning for another round of below-zero wind chills.

SETUP

An arctic airmass settled over the region this weekend, which caused wind chills to stay in the single digits most of Saturday.

Northerly winds will persist through Saturday night, bringing the coldest air of the new year so far, with temperatures dropping into the single digits early Sunday and wind chills falling below zero.
FUTURETRACK
Wind chills will quickly dip below zero Saturday night and stay between 0° and -5° through early Sunday morning. A brief warmup is expected Sunday afternoon due to a passing disturbance, which could bring more light flurries throughout the day. However, this wave will bring even colder air behind it, with wind chills plummeting to -5° and -15° on Monday morning.
Monday will be brutally cold, staying in the single digits all day despite more sunshine. Wind chills will again fall near zero Tuesday morning before temperatures rise to the upper 30s and 40s in the afternoon.

Limit your and your pet's time outdoors, especially during the early mornings on Sunday and Monday. When wind chills approach -15°, frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes, so be sure to cover as much exposed skin as possible with scarves, earmuffs, gloves, and face coverings.
