Tracking a chance for snow showers and more dangerous cold this weekend
TODAY: Thursday is less windy and slightly warmer, with temperatures expected in the low 40s near Columbia this afternoon. A sharp change to much cooler temperatures is expected in the north, and the same is expected with warmer temperatures in the south. Overall, we expect mostly cloudy skies.
TONIGHT: Temperatures fall tonight as a cold front passes late overnight. We are near freezing by sunrise.
EXTENDED: Friday is cloudy behind the cold front, but dry. Highs are forecast in the 30s. A quick moving clipper will bring chances for snow showers to some on Saturday. We expect the heart of this system to miss us to the northeast, but depending on track, we could get light snow in mid-Missouri. This will be possible as far south as a line from Brunswick to Montgomery city, but is more likely along and north of a line from Macon to Paris. We are cold enough that any snowfall will likely accumulate. The cold will deepen Saturday night into Sunday, leaving us in the single digits Sunday morning. Wind chills will be below zero pending no major shifts. We've issued an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day For Sunday morning because of this cold. On the other side of this weekend's cold, next week looks warmer with chances for rain showers.
