Tracking a blustery morning wind that leaves us cold by the afternoon

TODAY: Wednesday is windy and cold. Behind a cold front that has taken some light showers through the region, we are experiencing blustery west winds. Winds this morning will be sustained at 15-25 mph, and gust to 40-45 mph at times. A wind advisory is in place in our northern counties through 9 a.m. The windiest conditions will come before noon, with a lighter load from wind this afternoon. Still, this will cool us throughout the day. Our high temperatures have already occurred, as we expect temperatures to generally fall through the day. Some were still in the low 50s after midnight, and will be in the 30s through the afternoon. We likely stay mostly cloudy, and some flurries will be possible with low clouds in the northeast. This is unlikely for most, and no meaningful snow is forecast.

TONIGHT: We fall into the 20s overnight, with dry conditions.

EXTENDED: Thursday is cold to start, but a south wind returns as a warm front lifts in through the day. This may nudge some in the south to near 50, with many expected in the 40s. Precipitation will form well north of this warm front across Nebraska and Iowa. The nearest chance will be some cold rain in the far northeast corner of the state Thursday night. A dry cold front passes overnight into Friday. This brings more cold for the end of the week. Low stratus clouds will circle back into our region from the north behind the front. This will keep us gray, and could leave us with flurries at most. Cold settles in for the weekend, with highs in the 30s Saturday, and 20s Sunday. Sunday morning looks the coldest, with some just dropping into the single digits for a few hours. A slow warmup may be in the cards next week.
