Tracking another dreary day before a sunny, cold, and windy Wednesday
TODAY: Tuesday is dreary, and likely foggy through the early morning. Visibility should improve through mid-morning to noon, but clouds likely linger well into the afternoon. We'll likely remain overcast until a cold front sweeps skies clear this afternoon. From west to east, an uptick in wind speeds from the west-northwest to 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph will spread across the region. From 3-8 p.m., this line of wind will generate a few light showers before skies clear shortly after. The best chance in Columbia and Jefferson City comes around 5 p.m.
TONIGHT: A new airmass quickly rushes the region on the backs of 15-25 mph winds from the west-northwest. Winds may gust to 40 mph through the late overnight to early morning hours Wednesday.
EXTENDED: Temperatures start near freezing on Wednesday, and thanks to a continued north wind of 15-25 mph these temperatures will remain in the low 40s at warmest. Wind chills on Wednesday remain in the 20s most of the day. Winds calm on Thursday, from the northwest at 5-10 mph. Thanksgiving is chilly this year, as highs land in the upper 30s and low 40s. Skies remain generally clear Thursday into Friday, but clouds increase Friday night. Clouds are increasing ahead of an area of low pressure approaching Friday night into Saturday. This will bring a chance for a rain/snow mix Friday night, and into Saturday. We still have potential for the likelihood of precipitation to switch to one or the other, but as of now it looks like we have a good chance of both Friday night through Saturday. While there has been some consistency beginning to take shape in Friday night's data, confidence greatly decreases in the forecast through Saturday. Exactly how this system evolves is a big point of contention in the numbers right now, so stay tuned to the forecast for details on this Thanksgiving weekend. We currently see chances for both rain and snow through Monday, but details are very uncertain.
