No. 11 Mizzou wrestling falls in tight match against No. 9 Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The No. 11 Mizzou wrestling team came within striking distance of its third ranked victory of the season, on Monday night, but fell just short in a 21-16 loss to No. 9 Illinois.

Heading into the final bout, the Tigers only trailed the Fighting Illini by one point, following back-to-back victories from Aeoden Sinclair (184) and Evan Bates (197). However, Jarrett Stoner fell by major decision, 13-3, to the No. 9 wrestler in the 285 class to seal the victory for Illinois.

With the loss, head coach Brian Smith and his team moved to 5-4 on the season, while Illinois improved to 5-2 overall. Tiger Style's all-time record against the Fighting Illini now sits at 16-22 and 6-8 under Coach Smith.
