Tracking a wet work week and a dry weekend
TODAY: Monday is largely dry, with a few showers in the east this morning, and a slim chance for pop up storms this afternoon in the south and east this afternoon. The vast majority will stay dry, with increasing sunshine through the day, and a high just near 80 degrees.
TONIGHT: Overnight, dry weather continues, but clouds start to return by sunrise. These high clouds likely won't have a big impact on temperatures, but they do signal a return to rain chances by midday Tuesday.
EXTENDED: By 7-9 a.m., we'll be tracking the return of rain on our western border near HWY 65. This will eventually turn into scattered shower and storm chances by late morning to the noon hour for our western counties. Exact details regarding how far north better instability travels remains uncertain, but it's likely that we'll have lightning and thunder at a minimum. Currently, the severe thunderstorm threat likely resides through southern Missouri, south of I-44. Rain will spread across mid-Missouri through the afternoon. Shower chances return overnight and into Wednesday. Best chances for rain will shift east through the day on Wednesday, and eventually push east of us on Thursday. Small spotty shower chances are forecast for Thursday, but we'll likely remain mostly dry and cloudy. Through this rainy period, we expect highs to remain in the 70s. Sunshine and 70s are forecast on Friday, but we'll climb back into the 80s under more blue sky over the weekend. Up to an inch or more of rain may fall in mid-Missouri through Thursday.
