Tracking a late summer heat wave, but without the humidity this time

TODAY: Wednesday will be notably warmer, with highs in the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies amid more south flow. Winds are light and variable at times, but generally from the south today.

TONIGHT: Skies will be partly cloudy to mostly clear overnight, and temperatures remain in the 60s thanks to continued light south flow.

EXTENDED: The rest of the week is hot, with temperatures in the low 90s by both Thursday and Friday afternoon. Saturday may peak in the mid-to-upper 90s, likely the hottest day this week. The good news is that humidity is expected to remain low, meaning we likely don't feel any warmer than the posted temperatures. This still will make for a seasonably hot day for an afternoon game at Faurot. Sunday and Monday will be nearly as hot, but some hope for showers comes these days as data is generally suggesting a small weakening in the upper level ridge that is driving this heat and dry weather. This with enough moisture in the atmosphere could create some isolated showers and weak storms. The rain is much needed, but it likely won't be enough to move the needle on our developing drought. Temperatures are forecast to remain above average through much of next week. If not 90s, upper 80s are expected for the first half of next week.
