Tracking a hot and dry weekend

TODAY: A few storms to our north will collapse and drift this way by midday. This leaves us dry, but with some partly cloudy skies through midday. Winds will shift from east to south through the day today. Temperatures will start slightly cooler this morning, but south wind and sunshine this afternoon will likely lift highs back to about where they were on Wednesday.

TONIGHT: Temperatures will be a bit warmer overnight, with lows expected in the 70s and upper 60s.

EXTENDED: Friday will be a warmer day, with highs in the low 90s. Saturday brings even more heat and more humidity. We'll likely feel like near 100 on Friday, while heat indexes are close to 102-105 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Saturday and Sunday are ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days. Our next chance for rain is an isolated pop up storm or two on Monday, but better chances at scattered storms comes along a cold front on Tuesday and/or Wednesday. Timing is uncertain, but sometime in that window, an upper level wave will bring a more active pattern early next week. This will likely bring a break from the heat.
