Tracking ingredients for severe storms tonight ahead of an active weekend forecast
TODAY: Friday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as storms this evening may be severe. Overall, the day is mostly dry, but hot and humid. We expect heat indices near 100 this afternoon. This heat and humidity may give way to storms by the afternoon, largely north of HWY 24. This would be a recipe for our strongest storms. If they hold off until the overnight, severe weather will be less likely. For all the details, read our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog.
TONIGHT: Storms will weaken after sunset, leaving us with scattered showers into the early Saturday morning hours. We expect drier conditions by sunrise, with temperatures near 70.
EXTENDED: The cold front that drives storm development Friday, will stall overhead this weekend. This gives the best chance for rain on Saturday, especially in the south. An isolated strong storm cannot be ruled out near I-44. On Sunday, much the same will be true, as the boundary lingers near by, keeping storm chances in the forecast. However, the position of the boundary is causing a great deal of uncertainty, as a small shift south favors more high pressure and drier skies. Either way, we likely trend drier into Monday. Temperatures will also be greatly impacted by this, but generally we expect highs in the 80s and lingering humidity. South flow increases temperatures, humidity, and rain chances for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
