Tracking scattered afternoon storms Tuesday ahead of continued daily rain chances

TODAY: Tuesday brings a chance for rain once in the morning as a weakening line of storms pushes into the region from the northwest. This rain chance will wane through the morning as it dies out, but a renewed chance for storms will come along the same outflow during the afternoon. These storms will have potential to produce locally heavy rain and isolated damaging winds. Rain keeps temperatures cooler, with highs generally in the mid-80s but some may be cooler under the best rainfall.

TONIGHT: Overnight, our weather will become quiet. Temperatures should fall into the 60s for some, and remain in the 70s for others, especially in the west.

EXTENDED: Wednesday will generally be dry and and sunny, but some isolated storms cannot be ruled out in the east, while a storm or two may be possible in the west. One possible scenario would be a complex of storms arriving around midday in the west. The low level jet will likely develop early morning storms in Nebraska. Some guidance wants to grow this activity into a complex of storms that eats southward, into a pool of storm energy. If that materializes, the complex would stand a chance of brushing with mid-Missouri sometime around midday Wednesday. Overall, we still expect a drier day Wednesday, with highs in the mid-80s. Thursday is another mostly dry day with just enough chance for isolated storms to keep a rain chance in the forecast. Better storm chances come Friday evening into Saturday as we track another wave that will serve as a focus for scattered storms. This may push rain chances to our south for Saturday afternoon through Sunday, but we'll keep low rain chances for now as there is low confidence in this. Either way, deeper moisture returns again Monday into next week.
