Tracking scattered thunderstorm chances with severe potential overnight tonight

TODAY: Tuesday starts dry with clear skies at sunrise, before more clouds fill in during the afternoon. Showers and storms return to the forecast this afternoon in an isolated to scattered manner. Temperatures are warm, in the upper 80s, this afternoon.

TONIGHT: A complex of thunderstorms is still forecast to reach the region late overnight and into Wednesday morning. An ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day is in effect from midnight through the day on Wednesday for this chance for severe storms, and potential redevelopment on Wednesday. For the latest on this, read our Weather Alert Day Blog.

EXTENDED: We'll start near 70° with ongoing showers and thunderstorms Wednesday morning. Ongoing rain will likely taper off through midday, as a cold front nudges through the region. Depending on the speed and location of the front during the afternoon, we could see more severe storms in mid-Missouri. The timing will be critical here, as a front that exits before the heat of the day has a chance to recharge the atmosphere will kill our severe threat. Currently, it looks like I-44 and folks nearby will have the best chance at renewed storm chances. Either way, the front will clear, and leave us sunny and warm Thursday through the weekend.
