Tracking overnight showers and storms before more chances this weekend

TODAY: Wednesday is mostly sunny and mild, as highs land near 70 amid a westerly to northwesterly wind around 10-20 mph. Winds may gust as high as 30 mph.

TONIGHT: Skies will begin to cloud up in the south this evening around sunset, as we watch a chance for showers and storms near Truman Lake to Lake of the Ozarks. Storms near Springfield around 9 p.m. to midnight will cast showers north. We may have some lightning and thunder with these but severe weather is expected to be confined south towards the Ozarks in far southwest Missouri where large hail will be possible along with isolated damaging winds.

EXTENDED: After we miss out on severe weather, we have more fortune ahead in the way of quiet and cool weather Thursday and Friday. Highs are expected in the 60s with partly cloudy skies. Friday night, some showers may pick up in the west before the evening drive home. We expect rain chances to fill in from the west overnight into Saturday. Rain and a chance for thunderstorms will fill the forecast Saturday in the west, but some dry time may be possible east. Either way, more rain overspreads the region Sunday before pushing south on Monday. We'll carry a chance for showers on Monday, but things look drier for Memorial Day.
