Tracking less potent cold and tonight’s snow showers

TODAY: Thursday will be another cold day, but not as bitterly cold this afternoon. Starting in the single digits with windchills in the subzero range, we will climb via south winds into the low 30s. Clouds increase this afternoon.

TONIGHT: We expect Clouds to increase to overcast conditions near sunset. These clouds will precede our next chance for snow that will arrive shortly after 7-8 p.m. near the Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake. These snow showers fill in overnight, reaching Columbia and Jefferson City by 9 p.m.

EXTENDED: Snow will peak from midnight to 7 a.m. and taper off after the noon hour in the east. Temperatures will reach near 30 after the snow wraps up. For more details, check out the ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Winds from the north fill in behind the snow, dropping us into the teens Saturday morning. Clouds overnight keep us from getting much cooler. We'll have highs in the 30s both Saturday and Sunday. Another shortwave brings a shot of light snow, but this system will be even less potent than Friday's system. We may not see much precipitation from this wave at all, much less accumulation. Sunshine fills the first half of next week, but our cold does too, with highs looking to linger near 30.
