Tracking daily rain chances that keep temperatures mild
TODAY: Monday starts off somewhat soggy, with showers ongoing early before sunrise for some. Increasing chances for showers and storms come through the morning areawide, before leaving us drier by the afternoon and evening. This will limit temperatures, but the question is how much. This depends on the arrival of rain, but the forecast high for Columbia and Jefferson City today is in the low-to-mid 70s. This will be with some humidity thanks to rain, so expect dewpoints in the 60s. Some lightning will be possible with today's rainfall, but no severe weather is expected.
TONIGHT: Skies may decrease to partly cloudy this evening and into the overnight, but at least some clouds will clutter the skies and the Perseids meteor shower. Temperatures fall into the mid-60s overnight, with a light northeast breeze.
EXTENDED: Tuesday Brings another chance at passing showers and storms as another upper level wave rolls along a warm front that sits to our southwest. Rainfall timing is still variable, but it looks to be a morning focus on Tuesday, with rain chances best near the Lake of the Ozarks. Still, low chances for rain remain in the forecast nearly area wide, with the driest weather expected near Macon and Audrain counties. The aforementioned warm front inches closer on Wednesday morning, bringing a chance at widespread storms along it on Wednesday, along with highs forecast in the mid-80s after only reaching upper 70s to just near 80 on Tuesday. This puts us in the warm sector of a deepening low pressure system late week. Thursday will be mostly dry during the day, with highs reaching the upper 80s, but we'll be watching for storms during the day, and again along a cold front later that night into Friday morning. If confidence continues to increase in this event, this may be our best chance at rain this week. Drier weather is expected Friday through Sunday, but showers can't be ruled out Friday or Saturday. Temperatures look to fall into the low 80s for the weekend.
