Tracking a break from the heat ahead of a sunny weekend

TODAY: Thursday is our last day of extreme heat, and our last ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. We expect some showers to linger through the morning, before drying up by 9-10 a.m. Then as our cold front slowly drops through the region, we'll notice more and more winds from the northwest filling in behind the front. Still, temperatures will reach into the upper 80s and low 90s and dewpoints will remain high, so expect it to feel like 100-105. This is an improvement from Wednesday, but we'll feel even nicer Friday. The storm chance looks extremely low this afternoon, so it has been removed from the forecast.

TONIGHT: Skies will clear, and temperatures will finally fall into the low 70s, and possibly into the 60s thanks to our north breeze behind the cold front.

EXTENDED: Some mugginess will remain early Friday, but it will be a noticeably more mild start to the day. Sunshine will warm us into the upper 80s, which is where we'll stop thanks to persistent north flow. Some midday partly cloudy skies will develop, but any shower chances remain to our east. Skies look to stay mostly sunny over the weekend, and into Monday. Temperatures remain stagnant in the upper 80s and low 90s over the weekend, but a sharp warmup into the mid-90s comes Tuesday, which may be followed by a cold front bringing rain chances and a cooldown through the end of next week.
